wtf: i just want to vent

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Sometimes, I want to write a blog post about whatever is pissing me off at the time. Seriously. I just want to open up the MacBook and just get busy. But I can’t. Although The Munch is my blog and somewhat personal, it is not my online journal. I’ve been going through a lot on the personal front, so I suppose that’s why there’s been the hold up in updating. Sigh. Sorry… to whomever is out there reading this. I have so much I want to write about… I just need to deal with the other stuff first.

Love songs. Remember those things? When you would lose yourself in the musical expression of love for someone else, whether it be a lover, child or mother? To be honest, I forgot about them. Seriously. I realized that when I was listening to “Give Me the Night” (George Benson) on Equilibrium Radio (WHCR 90.3 FM).

I thought to myself these are cool lyrics! Seconds later Probe nudged me and said, “they’re playing your song.” (This was one of the first records my mother bought me when I got my first record player. My other record was Billy Joel’s ”Uptown Girl”)

I then thought about a comment I heard from Mary J. Blige recently. She said something like Drake’s “You the Best” is the best song we’ve (meaning us ladies) have had in a long time; a song where we are being hailed and loved. I sat there just smh and thinking, this is so sad. So so sad.  Love Sex songs have taken over and it’s a pity. NO one will know how to communicate in a relationship.

I ended up having a very interesting chat with my friend. Peep it. Quite entertaining.

1and1 does not equal 2. In fact, 1and1=FAIL!

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

I think it’s time to upgrade. I’ve been hosting our domain with 1and1.com for years now, maybe 6 or so. In fact, I was one of their “charter members” which means I was one of the first clients to sign up when they expanded to the US. And now I am running into all kinds of issues. They offer all of these “freebies” but they’re so limited it’s almost not worth it. I think I’m gonna have to upgrade and get ready to start paying for the services I really want. What’s the saying, all good things come to an end… yep, they sure do.

Peace, B*tches!

Radio host Wendy Williams is leaving radio for tv. *Go, Wendy* I can’t front, I’m proud of her. I respect her grind. As a native-New Yorker who listened to Wendy on Kiss, Hot 97 and BLS, I know she worked to be where she’s at. I didn’t always like her to be honest. I used to think she just gossiped all day but really, Ms. Williams was just ahead of the curve.

muzu-757221.gif

Irish video site MUZU inks deal with indie labels… hmm. I wonder when US companies will follow suit.  MUZU pays artists through ad revenue and to date, have NOT gotten into bed with the likes of YouTube or Myspace. I tell ya, I feel the indie movement more than ever. I can’t for the life of me see why anyone willingly seeks “the traditional record deal” anymore. There’s just so many vehicles to gain mass exposure it’s almost insane not to go the independent route.  More here.

munch on this: mental self defensive fitness

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Last week Ohsokool sent me some music to listen to in preparation for our next Sugatreats show, Monday, July 20, 2009 July 27, 2009. We are doing a special on Spike Lee’s movie, Do The Right Thing. I’m super excited because DTRT is one of my favorite movies ever. Ever. I used to watch this movie on the phone with my friend Niles after school - at least 3x per week (”Ayo Sal, how come you aint got no brothers on the wall?”) . Anyway, I was listening to the soundtrack and got to Public Enemy’s Fight the Power song. I think I liked it back in ‘89, but boy do I love it now.

I think I got stuck on stupid when Chuck D said, “let’s get down to business, mental self defensive fitness” … in order to fight the powers that be.  Get ya mind right and exercise it so we can get what we want and what we need.  (Go Chuck!) And if that ain’t no truer today, then I don’t know what is. President Obama just said to a crowded room of NAACP supporters: “There is no stronger weapon against inequality and no better path to opportunity than an education.” C’mon people, let’s get down to business.

Sweet Dreams or Boring and Snoring?

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

You all know how much I love my girl Beyonce. I mean, I really, really do. She’s beautiful, talented and works her ass off to stay on top. HOWEVER, I have to say, I’m getting sick of her and these cheap ass videos. Her new video for Sweet Dreams is really a bore. Really. Maybe I need to watch it a dozen more times to get the full effect, but as of now, I’m just not feeling it. Didn’t I see these moves in Single Ladies? And sometimes, I do like to see images that correlate with the song. C’mon Bey, I know we are in a recession, but damn… give us something captivating enough to prompt us go out and purchase I Am…Sasha Fierce. What do you think, am I being too harsh?

Magic’s Secret Revealed or Just Revealing???

Monday, April 20th, 2009

38120000-04-24jpg.jpegI’m feeling pretty ill and couldn’t go to the radio show tonight. Bummer. For one, I hate being sick. For two, I really wanted to go to the station. I get a rush from being on-air, but I feel so bad, I just couldn’t make it out. Anyway, I decided to watch a show on My9 called Magic’s Secrets Revealed. Probe was tight because he was learning all the tricks and I was getting tight because of all the booty shots Probe kept commenting on. I dunno know if I’ll be DVRn’ this show ;).

put ya hands up…

100-beyonce-lookalikes-bring-piccadilly-circus-to-a-standstill_1jpg.jpegIf you are juuust about over the Single Ladies song, video, contests, etc. I mean, anyone who knows me knows I love my girl B… but uhhhh can we please keep it movin’. I’m not even gonna post the video. You can Youtube it, but Trident gathered 100 single ladies to perform at the Picadilly Circus in London. Apparently they stopped traffic. Yawn. Neeeext.

wtf?… killing the family?

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

I know times are hard. I get it. But killing your family because of debt is so not the answer to your problems. No one has confirmed that there has been an increase in murder/suicide cases since we’ve entered into a recession, but it seems like every week I hear of another incident. Maybe it’s just reported more. In any event, here’s the latest family murder/suicide in Maryland.
