but i’m so sleepy. *yawn*
2/3 of the Elevations Crew are in the studio tonight. Probe and Ernesto are working on some music and other details for their website launch, Elevations Radio (Brett, you are definitely here in spirit). I just recorded the introduction; Ernesto likes the sound of my voice. *blush*
It took me a minute to get “into” Twitter. I had an account for months before I started using it. I was told that if I downloaded an app to my BlackBerry (I chose Uber Twitter), I would use it all the time. That didn’t happen. I deleted the app from my BB but still use Twitter from the web. But now…. @probedms just showed me a wonderful extension for Firefox called Twitterbar and I think I’m in love.
Why you ask? Well, you can post your updates right from your FF address bar. How f*cking cool is that? You can even tweet the pages you are currently viewing w/the click of one button. Me Likey!
In the midst of the collapse of the publishing industry, Time Inc. has come up with a zany idea to keep their readers interested in their publications.
Introducing Mine, a customizable digital magazine that combine reader-selected sections from eight Time Inc. publications. Kinda like the print version of RSS feeds. I chose 5 magazines that I wanted to get clips from but the sucky part is that Time doesn’t really have that many good titles. But… how they try to score is by truly customizing the “issue” throughout. So, all of the advertisements have bits of your personal information like your name, geographic region, etc. (based on the questionnaire answers you provide when you sign up.)
Here is a screenshot of my 2nd issue and I’m not that impressed. Sorry Time. Maybe Hearst or Conde Nast someone with better content that appeals to me will make my me likey list.
Radio host Wendy Williams is leaving radio for tv. *Go, Wendy* I can’t front, I’m proud of her. I respect her grind. As a native-New Yorker who listened to Wendy on Kiss, Hot 97 and BLS, I know she worked to be where she’s at. I didn’t always like her to be honest. I used to think she just gossiped all day but really, Ms. Williams was just ahead of the curve.
Irish video site MUZU inks deal with indie labels… hmm. I wonder when US companies will follow suit. MUZU pays artists through ad revenue and to date, have NOT gotten into bed with the likes of YouTube or Myspace. I tell ya, I feel the indie movement more than ever. I can’t for the life of me see why anyone willingly seeks “the traditional record deal” anymore. There’s just so many vehicles to gain mass exposure it’s almost insane not to go the independent route. More here.
According to Jay-Z, his most recent single, Death of Autotune was an idea sparked by Kanye West. Jay says autotune is played out. When you have fast food chains using it in their commercial, you know it’s time to put the concept to bed. Click here for more of his words.
Last week Ohsokool sent me some music to listen to in preparation for our next Sugatreats show, Monday, July 20, 2009 July 27, 2009. We are doing a special on Spike Lee’s movie, Do The Right Thing. I’m super excited because DTRT is one of my favorite movies ever. Ever. I used to watch this movie on the phone with my friend Niles after school - at least 3x per week (”Ayo Sal, how come you aint got no brothers on the wall?”) . Anyway, I was listening to the soundtrack and got to Public Enemy’s Fight the Power song. I think I liked it back in ‘89, but boy do I love it now.
I think I got stuck on stupid when Chuck D said, “let’s get down to business, mental self defensive fitness” … in order to fight the powers that be. Get ya mind right and exercise it so we can get what we want and what we need. (Go Chuck!) And if that ain’t no truer today, then I don’t know what is. President Obama just said to a crowded room of NAACP supporters: “There is no stronger weapon against inequality and no better path to opportunity than an education.” C’mon people, let’s get down to business.
Nope, not this Lil Mama…
More like LIL MAMA, my favorite track (at this moment) on Probe dms’ new album, LIFE IS A MOVIE.
I actually just recorded a lil enhancement piece but that has no bearing on my love for this song. This was my favorite way before P asked me to do it. I just love it: the beat, the flows, the mix.
Nice job, Mr. Probe DMS! *applause*
You all know how much I love my girl Beyonce. I mean, I really, really do. She’s beautiful, talented and works her ass off to stay on top. HOWEVER, I have to say, I’m getting sick of her and these cheap ass videos. Her new video for Sweet Dreams is really a bore. Really. Maybe I need to watch it a dozen more times to get the full effect, but as of now, I’m just not feeling it. Didn’t I see these moves in Single Ladies? And sometimes, I do like to see images that correlate with the song. C’mon Bey, I know we are in a recession, but damn… give us something captivating enough to prompt us go out and purchase I Am…Sasha Fierce. What do you think, am I being too harsh?
